Thulani in Germany Part 2

Thulani went cycling today even though it was quite stormy. First stop was a newly formed lake, the "Hase-See", named after the river Hase which runs right through Bramsche. The lake area used to be a gravel plant but is now officially part of the flood protection facilities and inoffcially it will be transformed into a nice recreation area. Just needs a bit more trees and plants and it'll be perfect.

In the city centre Thulani met a big red pig which was waiting in front of a local bank because it was too big to get to the ATMs

Piggie gave Thulani a big kiss and the he mounted Friedrich's old boneshaker to do some more cycling in the city centre.

While riding along Thulani noticed that's there dozens of Roman face masks on a pole in the Bramsche area (actually 194, since Germans like to be precise when it comes to thinks like these). Each mask and pole is individually decorated and was part of a big peace campaign. The original mask belonged to a roman soldier named "Varus" who fought in the the so called Varus Battle where German warriors slaughtered three Roman legions in 9 AD.

Several really nice masks are in front of the Bramsche town hall (in the background is the local hospital)

Thulani had a short rest while thinking about the fact that close to Bramsche is a huge battlefield (the place is called Kalkriese) where approx 5000 Romans and most likely even more Germans were killed. It's one of the places where it always feels kind of dark even in the middle of a summer day. But the Varus Battle museum has an excellent marketing department, so there's live music and really crappy events like the so called "Osterleuchten" (fire works display during Easter Time) right on the excavation site where many thousands lost their lifes. That blows Thulani's mind , I wonder how achaeologists feel about this

Spring is here ... while Friedrich's working in the garden Thulani enjoyed the first warm spots in the sun and had a look at all the flowers.

Instead of helping Friedrich getting the garden ready for spring, Thulani played hide and seek and even climbed into trees.

Sometimes it was really hard to spot the little bear who had lots of fun playing hide and seek.

Thulani even managed to climb onto the swing , while Friedrich wasn't looking ... Friedrich was too irritated by the fact that the lawn looked so battered after scarifying

After spending most of the day outside on the bike and in the garden Friedrich was too shaky to take a decent picture of us two in front of the mirror. #mirror picture fail
